Anyways Video

"Anyways" The track Anyways appears on diarmo's Fallen Sun EP released on Elpamusic. I shot this video in my hotel room in Morocco, holding the camera in front of the light bulb, that is in front of a mirror (this gives the double light bulb effect). I held the camera at a angle so I could cut out the rest of the light in the room. I haven't edited the video, it is one 5 min take. I changed the duration of the video to fit the time spam of the piece of music.

Sompting Video

Crystal Feeling Video

The video was not made simultaneously along with the music peace unlike the other two videos I've made, Inertia and Circadian. I tried to tell a story with this video with the use of video clips, and some video I shot with the DV camera. I also used some computer graphics I've produced making AVS visual files in Winamp that synch to the audio and layered them over the video piece mid way through and near the end of the video. The story line is when the music is playing it produces light that people are attracted to and the light gives them a sort of energy. I've added to the book, you'll see mid way through the video, an image of an old EP of mine to the first page in the book and on another page of the book I've added a photo of my shadow using the program Adobe after effects. I've also added a black feathered outline around the video and made all the video slightly grainy using effects in Adobe after effects.

Circadian Video

For the 'Circadian' video I've used a selection of video loops and mixed them up using premier pro along to the music. I then imported the video into Adobe after effects and added an old TV look over the video. I've also added the effect of an old TV turning on and off at the start and end of the video. I've also used some computer graphics I produced by making AVS visual files in Winamp, which move in sync to the music at the start and end of the video.

Inertia Video

For the music video 'Inertia' I used a still image that I got of a flyer, I've scanned the image into the computer. I used Photoshop to separate each part of the image into eleven separate layers. I then imported the layers into premier pro and synced them to the movement of the music by playing the music piece and moving each layer around till the image moved in a nice sequence along to the music. Then using Adobe after effects I added a black feathered outline around the outside of the video.

Using a kids toy kaleidoscope as a lens on my camera, I shot this footage of some pretty tiles on the wall while rotating the kaleidoscope clockwise. I then combined the video to a short piece of music I produced.
I hope to release this track on a EP in the coming future.

dIARMO + L'AUBAINE

'dIARMO + L'AUBAINE' is the live Audio/Visual collaboration project between Diarmuid Slattery and Laurie Bender. The performance consists of dIARMO playing his own electronic productions live, using Ableton live and various midi controlling hardware's and effects, while L'AUBAINE is controlling her self produced visuals (Animation, Photography, Hand Drawings, Videos) loaded into modul8 with added effects, all controlled via midi controllers, played in sequence to dIARMO'S live electronic music.

This is not the first collaboration between the duo to date, the two have collaborated on projects together in the past year, 2011, with L'AUBAINE producing music video's for two of dIARMO'S released tracks, 'Somting' taken from dIARMO'S 2010 album 'i am a visitor here', also the track "TuCh" on the compilation album "Help Japan by Steve Paul & Friends". L'AUBAINE also created the art cover work for dIARMO'S recent six track release on elpaMusic 'Fallen Sun ep'.

"Throughout the 30 min set the tempo moves smoothly up and down from a 126bpm to 160bpm, containing a mix of Dubstep, House, Ambient, Drum n Bass, Glitch and 3/4 time Waltz Electronic music, all produced and then mixed live by diarmo. With Video, Photography, Hand Drawings, and Animated visuals produced by l'Aubaine, then mixed and synced live along to the music."

Hailing from Dublin Ireland, now living in London. Diarmo has been Djing, producing deep electronic music for many years.

Taking influences from a wide range of styles, influenced heavily by early 90's.

Diarmo produces under various guises, covering a broad range of electronica, while his DJ sets now blend a mix of deep minimal house, techno, bass and ambient.

You can catch his DJ sets on his fortnightly radio show "Vibrant Sound" on Shoreditch Radio.

Diarmo has released a number of EP's, while also having tracks appear on compilations world wide.

2010, his first full album release "I am a visitor here" on A Future Without.

2011, released his "Fallen Sun Ep" on ElpaMusic.

2012 brings his first minimal house release "Amber Ep" on his own label Basilar Records."

Recent activities include collaborating on material with Tokyo musician Kuroi Mori, for Kurois forth-coming album Child's Hill officially released in Japan, also creating sound designs for visual art, for artists Istvan Laszlo, Sonny sanjay Vadgama.

Diarmo works tutoring Music production and Creative Media production in London.

BENT CIRCUITS

Speak & Spell and Casio SA21

My first intentions with the Speak & Spell and the Casio SA-21 were to circuit bend each instrument and to finally end up with two separately modified electronic toys to play with. After accidentally damaging the Casio SA-21 by breaking one of the small integrated circuits off the circuit board so that the Casio did not play its original sounds anymore, I decided to combine the two instruments together. The only sound I could get form the keyboard after I had broken the integrated circuit was a squealing sound by touching the board with two of my fingers at the same time on different parts of the board and moving them around. So I have ended up removing the circuit board form the Casio SA-21, the Speak & spell had just enough room to add the Casio's circuit board to it.

Along with the Casio SA-21 circuit board I've also added some extra components to the Speak & Spell.

I've added two buttons to the Speak & Spell, a reset button that is used when the circuit overloads and dies every so often. This means you just hit the reset button and this will cut the power coming form the battery into the Speak & spell circuit. I've added a pause button on the left side of the Speak & Spell, this gives a nice choppy sound when continually pressed.

In between the reset and the pause button is a row of five body contacts, made from drawing pins attached to the sensitive points on the Casio SA-21 circuit board so when contact is made with the drawing pins you hear the squealing sounds coming from the Casio SA-21 circuit.

By touching the pins in different combinations you can produce a wide range of sounds.

I have also added a on/off switch for the Casio circuit, that I have placed inside the Speak & spell so each time the speak & spell is turned on there is a separate on/off switch for the Casio so not to run the battery's down if only using the Speak & Spell and not the body contacts wired to the Casio circuit.

On the opposite side to the Casio's on/off switch I have added a distortion switch and a loop switch. The distortion switch works fine. When the loop switch was first added to the Speak & Spell it looped different parts of the audio coming form the instrument. But now this switch only loops the same glitch all the time, so I need to fix this.

Just below the speaker grill is a row of three glitch switches linked in a combination to set off different glitch sequences.

On the top left and right hand corners of the Speak & Spell I have added two LED lights with a switch in the middle to turn the lights on. This switch is in combination with the on/off switch for the Casio circuit and will only send power to the LED's if the Casio circuit switch is turned on.

The LED on/off switch also acts as a glitch switch for the Speak & Spell when switched to on position, but this doesn't seem to always influence the sound.

I have also added a second speaker placed in behind the original Speak & Spell speaker and I have attached the audio out from the Casio circuit board to this speaker, but this speaker only lasted a while before dying away with no sound coming from it anymore.

There is a mini jack line out added just below the Casio on/off switch on the right hand side and this is the line output for the Casio SA-21.

I've had to add two resistors one for each of the LED's, after burning out the first lot of LED's that I'd added to the Speak & spell.

Above is an image of the Casio SA-21 and the circuit that was removed form inside the Casio. This circuit is now apart of the Speak & spell.

I've also made a crackle box out of the circuit board removed form an AM/FM radio.

The radio was battery powered and mains powered.

It was the alarm clock in the radio that ran off the battery and the radio circuit that ran of the main power plug.

So I had to remove the main power plug and replace it with a battery because it's not a good idea to lay your hands on a circuit board connected to a mains plug.

So far the circuit has ran fine off the battery.

I also added a new speaker to the radio because the original speaker was too big to fit in side the domino box that I used to house the radio circuit, I've added a on/off switch and a line out put.

And finally I also made a contact microphone from a Piezo disc and audio cable, I'll put some images up of the contact mic soon.
